Doug Kearney is an enterprise leader, operator and private-equity investor with more than thirty years of experience leading, building, transforming and investing in businesses across public, private and private-equity-backed ownership.

His career has included responsibilities as CEO, President, COO, CFO, private-equity investor, Operating Partner and board member. Across those roles, he has built leadership teams, developed talent, strengthened organizational capability and led businesses through growth, transformation, integration and transition.

That range has given him a practical understanding and multidimensional perspective of the enterprise from multiple positions of accountability—from strategy, people, operations and customers to capital, governance, transactions and investor returns.

Executive Profile

A Broad and Deep Executive Perspective

Doug began his career in public accounting, serving large public-company clients and developing a rigorous grounding in financial reporting, controls, performance measurement and the underlying economics of businesses.

He then moved into public-company leadership, gaining direct experience with large-scale operations, strategy, commercial acceleration, portfolio optimization, technology adoption, capital markets, investor expectations, governance, M&A, liquidity and cash-flow management.

That experience established many of the perspectives he later applied as an investor, Operating Partner and CEO: growth requires commercial capability; operating performance depends on disciplined execution; and businesses cannot scale without effective processes, controls and enabling technology.

His subsequent work in middle-market and private-equity-backed companies added a different dimension—greater operating immediacy, tighter resource constraints and a more direct connection between management decisions, organizational capability and enterprise value.

As his responsibilities expanded, Doug moved from finance into broader enterprise leadership, serving as President and COO, leading private-equity-backed businesses as CEO, and working as both a private-equity investor and Operating Partner.

Each role added a different perspective and level of accountability.

As a CFO, he developed a clear understanding of how strategy and operating decisions drive margins, cash flow, capital requirements, financial performance and investor outcomes.

As a President, COO and CEO, he carried responsibility for customers, employees, leadership teams, commercial performance, technology, operations, culture and results.

As an investor and board member, he evaluated management teams, investment theses, risk, governance, capital allocation and value realization.

Together, these experiences shaped a broad and deep view of the enterprise—one that connects people, strategy, customers, operations, technology, finance, organizational design, leadership and ownership rather than treating them as separate disciplines. Each is essential to building sustainable enterprise value.

Doug has led organizations with up to 17,000 employees, operated businesses across 12 countries and worked across more than two dozen industries.

His experience includes public companies, global enterprises, middle-market platforms, founder-led organizations and private-equity-backed businesses undergoing growth, transformation, integration, ownership transition and strategic repositioning.

Across these environments, the ultimate objective has remained consistent: create greater enterprise value.

The path differs by business. It may require organic growth, commercial acceleration, customer expansion, new markets, stronger leadership, improved operating performance, lower costs, new capabilities, acquisitions, technology investment or changes in capital structure.

Frequently, several of these elements must come together at the same time. That is where business environments become ambiguous and complex: priorities compete, dependencies matter and substantial detail must be translated into a clear direction and executable sequence of actions.

Doug has built and scaled platforms and industry verticals, strengthened commercial and operating performance, developed leadership teams, raised debt and equity capital, and completed more than 75 transactions, including 40+ acquisitions and 35+ divestitures.

He has also led through successive waves of technological, economic and market change. His career has spanned changing customer expectations, business-model disruption, recessions, capital-market volatility and the continuing evolution of technology—from early business digitization through automation and generative AI.

That experience has reinforced the importance of understanding not only how a business performs today, but also what must change for it to compete, grow and scale in the future.

Building, Scaling and Transforming Businesses

Leadership Through Transition

A significant portion of Doug’s career has involved consequential transitions.

He has followed founders and long-tenured executives, led through changes in ownership and governance, integrated acquired businesses and assumed responsibility for organizations with deeply established cultures, relationships and operating practices.

Some businesses had strong foundations that needed to be preserved and extended. Others required more fundamental development of leadership, controls, processes, technology and organizational discipline.

Doug learned that a business can grow without all of those elements fully developed—but it cannot scale reliably without capable teams, repeatable processes and technology that can support the enterprise.

These transitions require judgment about what should be preserved, what must evolve and what must be built. They also require urgency. Investors, owners, employees and customers expect progress, and the leadership challenge is to move decisively without disregarding the history, relationships and achievements that shaped the organization.

Doug brings respect for what came before, clarity about what the future requires and urgency and accountability in delivering results.

Private Equity, Transactions and Value Realization

Doug’s experience extends across the full ownership cycle.

He has evaluated and completed investments, worked with management teams and boards, raised more than $1 billion of debt and equity capital, led portfolio companies, executed acquisitions and divestitures, and participated in successful investment outcomes and exits.

His transaction experience includes extensive work with founder-owned and founder-led companies, as well as public companies, institutional owners and private-equity-backed businesses. This has given him a practical understanding of the financial, operational, organizational and human dimensions of transactions and ownership change.

Doug understands the difference between completing a transaction and building an enterprise capable of delivering the investment thesis.

He also understands that value realization is rarely driven by one action. It requires alignment among strategy, commercial execution, operating performance, leadership, organization, technology, capital and governance.

Leadership Relevance

Doug is particularly relevant to organizations seeking experienced leadership for:

  • CEO, President, portfolio-company and selected COO or CFO roles;

  • growth, transformation and strategic repositioning;

  • private-equity operating and portfolio value creation;

  • buy-and-build strategies and integration;

  • Executive Chair and board roles;

  • leadership, ownership and governance transitions;

  • and businesses requiring strategic, operating, financial and organizational judgment.

He brings the accountability of an enterprise leader, the discipline of an investor and the perspective of a board member to situations where growth, performance, ownership and enterprise value must come together.
